Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association
SMACNA of Western PA, a chapter of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA), was founded in 1956 by a like-minded and driven group of professional sheet metal contractors dedicated to improving all aspects of their industry. Today, these same motives compel our diverse group of members to work toward furthering the goals of this association. Member contractors are actively engaged in all phases of sheet metal fabrication and installation, including HVAC, architectural and specialty fabrication work, manufacturing, testing and balancing, kitchen work, and roofing.
SMACNA of Western PA and its members contend that education and ongoing training are the keys to success in this ever-changing business environment. For its membership, SMACNA of Western PA has recently sponsored the following educational seminars:
- HVAC Systems Duct Construction
- Construction Law Update
- Building Information Modeling (BIM) Webinar
- SMWIA Code of Excellence Webinar
- Safety and Health Roundtable
Additionally, SMACNA of Western PA contractors annually contribute over $1,000,000 to the Sheet Metal Workers Local 12 Apprentice Training Program. This money funds the training and development of our qualified workforce. Each new apprentice is required to complete a four year program of classroom and on-the-job training, including OSHA 10 and 30 hour training. Upon completion of their apprenticeship, they have the opportunity to earn an Associate’s Degree from the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC).
Working together with our labor force is the keystone of our industry. Our relationship with Sheet Metal Workers Local 12 goes beyond historical labor/management issues. Both sides agreed to the creation of a Labor Management Cooperation Fund to benefit the industry through marketing and other means. This includes a website highlighting our shared goals and values, our annual Sheet Metal Industry Night to help educate the architectural and engineering community about SMACNA standards and our contractors. Working together to resolve issues and identify opportunities proactively has greatly benefited the relationship between our two groups, forever shedding contrived historical notions.
Located at 153 Perry Highway, Suite 101, Pittsburgh, PA 15229, SMACNA of Western PA works together and in unity with all of the stakeholders in the sheet metal industry and continues our tradition of over 60 years of service to our customers, our community, and our workforce.
